Councilman Social Care, Antonio Calderon and the head of this study, Enrique Bocos, have used the International Day of Disabled Persons to present the I Study of Disability in Cartagena.
It was done this past year and will allow, after a detailed analysis of it, establish working committees and develop an action plan for the coming years.
This analysis will give a true picture of the situation of disability in the town.
This study is very important to know the reality of disability, establish a coordinated effort to schedule the appropriate itineraries and get these people to make your life more normalized way possible tool, explained the mayor.
The study was conducted in 200 people with disabilities, 100 caregivers of people with disabilities, 16 entities and 168 managers, technicians and volunteers from different entities.
MAIN RESULTS OF THE STUDY
Over 70% of people with disabilities need assistance to perform basic activities of daily living.
60% have accessibility problems either on the street, transport or access to information.
Addition of 100 people of working age, it only 20%.
Most caregivers are women, with mean age 59 years, with 100% of the dependent person family.
Care is permanent, intense and long lasting. Many of these people claim to have many repercussions at work, health, economy, family life, health and leisure, said the manager of this study.
The entities are usually local, 75% being the legal form of ¿asociación¿, and more than half of the people hired are people with disabilities, 50.2%.
Councilman Social Care, Antonio Calderon has said in the conclusions that there are gaps where we must insist as jobs, employment, economic benefits, information about the disease, but there are also aspects that have improved as health care, entities, leisure and free time or social care.
He wanted to finalize ensuring that from the council does not do studies to amass roles but to know realities, and together to solve problems for citizens.
For years there are many advances in the world of the disabled.
The mayor also recalled that until recently had people locked in each and, nowadays, thanks to the efforts of many people, this is a problem that has minority sphere.
