Cartagena hosts this Saturday 25th Regional Meeting of Self-Advocates ASTUS- PROLAM fifteenth. This year the day, in which lectures and group work are included, will focus on the future plans of persons with intellectual disabilities and the slogan Us we can choose.
About a hundred people with this disability and the entire region will attend this forum as a novelty, this edition will feature a self-advocacy group of Valencian entity.
The conference will take place at the premises of PROLAM from 9.30 am, by the president and FEAPS ASTUS Murcia Federation, Joaquin Barbera, and the Councillor for Social Care, Antonio Calderon.
The self-advocacy groups are working groups for adults with intellectual disabilities who share experiences and develop tools for greater autonomy. Themselves by an organizing committee selected the contents of its annual meeting takes place annually in the facilities of a different association.
This will be the first time the meeting will take place in Cartagena.
This program provides an opportunity for beneficiaries to participate to their fullest potential, they need people to support them and help you manage by themselves.
In each self-advocacy group is a support person who gives the group and each of its members the necessary support to achieve their goals.
In FEAPS Murcia, the program results in the operation of 11 self-advocacy groups constituted APCOM (1) ASTUS (2), ASSIDO (2), PEEM (2), ASID Cartagena, ASTRAPACE (2) and Intedis, involving some 97 adults with intellectual disabilities, and 10 support persons involved.
These activities funded Solidarity X box social purposes of the Statement of Income.
