A Final Project Race recently read in the UPCT analyzes the best locations to place the logistics zone (LAZ) of Cartagena and prefers the polygon Camachos if the macropuerto Gorguel builds or expands dock tailings, or Roche, if the port is not enlarged.

The work of the Electronics Engineering student Marina Hernandez Grau of the need for a logistics zone in Cartagena, to convert the port, which is already the sixth recipient of goods in Spain thanks to its low discharge rates in a Port 'hub' or transshipment able to redistribute, both by sea, rail or road, the burden of large container vessels.

The infrastructure is also closely related to the development of the Mediterranean corridor and rail transport, as with the increase in tourist arrivals space inside the traditional port.

The student has analyzed four possible locations for the logistics storage area: the Sierra de la Fausilla proposed by the Port Authority, Alums, Polygon of Camachos and Roche.

Address environmental problems of unevenness and lack of space in the Sierra de la Fausilla and the high cost of Alums option, because it is private land for development and the student prefers the advantages of the polygon already enabled Camachos and low-cost land and state property.

The work stands at 180 hectares minimum surface needed to establish a ZAL able to attract three million containers a year and compete with the ports of Algeciras and Valencia.

If the macropuerto Gorguel is not built nor the third phase of expansion of the tailings basin will run around the island, the Final Project Race valued as the best choice of the people of Roche, for its proximity to the current Puerto.
