Great debut of Cartagena Andrés Lledo in the Atacama Crossing, the third round of Grand Slam 4Deserts.

The athlete getting placed in the fifteenth place in the first stage of 36.2 km, after starting his career yesterday with 160 other competitors Sunday.

The Spanish double Olympic Chema Martinez won the first race of the Atacama Crossing, ending the opening 36.2 kilometer course in 11:18:47.

The route of this first stage was winding, with a path through canyons and striking rock formations with loose gravel and boulders that act as surfacing.

It was a spectacular day with clear skies and light wind gusts that offset the bright sun to a comfortable 28 degrees Celsius in the shade.

However, the combination of the elevation and the hot air in the barrels provided a difficult stage of opening.

The overall change in altitude during the day was of 3,263 meters at 2627 meters, but more complicated were the last 4 miles.

The overall mood of the night in the camp was a mixture of joy and general confusion of how difficult it was this first test, with the typical adverse conditions of the Atacama, one of the harshest deserts on the planet.

Today Monday plays second stage, with an opening 44.8 kilometer course with difficult sections and finished with a moderate 20 km varied terrain.

Participants, including Lledo, have to go through these 7 days in sand dunes, rivers and meadows long in this harsh desert in which we can follow the steps to our Cartagena athlete
