A group of students from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) will present the 9th of October its autonomous underwater vehicle project at the 53rd Congress of Naval Engineering and Marine Industry, held in Cartagena.
The project is called SIREN and students have almost completed the design of this vehicle with new, retractable solar collection system.
The team has been working on this project since 2012 without any decent direction.
"Not having a teacher leading the project may delay us at some point, but it also benefits us, because nobody tells us what we must do and we who have to think how to do things," says John Smith, spokesman team.
Twenty students from various disciplines such as Naval Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Telecommunications and Business Administration formed the team that carries out the SIREN project and is open to new members this year.
His intention is to get a company to finance the construction of the vehicle.
Possible applications of this underwater robot is solar-powered water removal mines.
"Being in this project also allows us to autopromocionarnos companies, and we show that we can carry out this work without the supervision of a teacher," Smith explains.
The 53 th Congress of Naval Engineering and Industry will be held in Cartagena Marina between 8 and 10 October and will be opened at the Faculty of Sciences of the Company UPCT by Defence Minister Peter Morenés.
