SPCTexige Barreiro improvements in the accessibility of our beaches (03/09/2014)

Three weeks before the end of the summer, it is our opinion some time to analyze areas for improvement with a view to next season.

So from SPCT thought the City of Cartagena must increase its investment to equip our beaches furniture and facilities to improve accessibility to the beaches of persons with disabilities.

People with disabilities are a part of the population to be able to move in many cases without the aid of any passenger

In general, there are numerous points to be taken into account to consider that a place is fully adapted, for example if if walks on the sand, there are ramps to the beach, if there are changing rooms and toilets adapted, if there adapted shadow areas or if you have stored enough parking for the disabled.

Another of the most important things is the existence of amphibious chairs or crutches, which can be a tremendous advantage for people with reduced mobility traveling by the beach unaided.

If we analyze our municipal beaches in many cases the City advertises our beaches as handicapped accessible but the reality is that in many cases the alleged accessibility is limited to a footbridge over the sand.

Analyzing lasplayas La Mangaque belong to Cartagena, there are none, except for the area Entremares in Lost Ship, that has adapted changing rooms or showers;

although all but Calblanque offer adapted toilets.

The beaches of Cala del Barco, and Monte Blanco Cala Reona in Manga and Calblanque, El Portus and Paradise Beach are not cataloged with beaches accessible for people with disabilities.

The City Council website only provides the equipment on 2 beaches, particularly in Isla Plana and amphibious Cavanna beach chairs, a feature essential for improving the accessibility and enjoyment of our beaches disabled.

Therefore, from SPCT we demand that the government team PP get down to work to the next tourist season make our town a national benchmark for accessibility, as well as safeguarding the fundamental rights of persons with reduced mobility , it could become a tourist landmark for such people.
