The local governing board has approved at its meeting on Thursday, signing the necessary agreements to develop the Life + conservation Tetraclinis Articulata project, known as Cypress Cartagena or Sabina Mora, a project headed by the Directorate General for the Environment of the region and with the participation of the City of Cartagena and related nature conservation associations such as the Association of Southeast Naturalists and Sierra Minera Foundation.
According to the Councillor for Sustainable Development, Joaquín Segado, through this project will seek to conserve this endemic species, whose only presence in Europe is in our region, and was greatly affected by the fire that occurred in August 2011 saw Atamaría, which burned 60 percent of the population of cypress.
With this European initiative will be launched reforestation and conservation work, corresponding to the city of Cartagena the work of outreach and awareness through activities such as environmental education.
The project budget amounts to 1,544,000 euros, provided mostly by the European Union and managed by the Autonomous Community.
The City provides 13,000 euros and 55,000 euros manage, that will be that will go to outreach campaigns.
LAND FOR THE ALJORRA CEIP
The Governing Board also approved today the regrouping of land under municipal ownership and its transfer to the Autonomous Region for the construction of the new Center for Education and Primary Aljorra, land coming to replace the originally planned, because near them was a water passage.
