The mayor, Pilar Barreiro, Thursday chaired a meeting of the Foundation of the Roman Theatre, which has benefited from the presence of the Minister of Education, Culture and Universities, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, and in which, among other issues, have been addressed the number of visitors who have passed through the Museum which houses one of the key sites of the city.
So far in 2014 (until 27 July), the Roman Theatre in Cartagena and its museum has been visited by over 91,000 visitors. This means that, since its opening on July 11, 2008, have passed near 856 593 people by the monument, which keeps him as the most visited museum in the Region of Murcia and one of the most visited nationwide.
According unveiled the Mayor, on this summer, that is, t he months of June and July, the figures are spectacular, with an increase in visitor numbers by 15 per cent over the same period last year and of these visitors, 61 percent are foreigners, who represents 10 percent more than in 2013. And that cruises today do not count, added Barreiro, but the truth is that the curve of visitors to the Theatre Romano is rising, and is the element that gives flip to heritage tourism in the city.
