Violators face penalties ranging from 201 euros to 3000, as envisaged in Law of Marine Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Region of Murcia
The Guardia Civil of the Region of Murcia, in the framework of the 'THUNNUS' operation developed to pursue illegal bluefin catch, has denounced the two occupants of a vehicle carrying more than 50 kg of this species caught allegedly illegally in Cartagena.
In one of the monitoring framed in the 'Plan against illegal catches of bluefin tuna' on issues that could be carried out this illegal activity on the coast of the Region of Murcia, Cartagena in this case, the Service for the Protection of Nature (SEPRONA) of the Meritorious identified the occupants of a car towing a boat zodiac type.
The thorough inspection on the vehicle and dragged the boat allowed the civil guards discover hidden by a tarp, inside the latter four backs bluefin tuna "Thunnus Thunnus" with a total weight of 51.4 kg
After finding the illicit origin of the specimens, the SEPRONA proceeded to forfeiture.
Soon after, specialized staff examined gender and determined that, to be in poor storage conditions, was not fit for human consumption so eventually proceeded to its destruction.
Given the irregularities and unable to prove their legal provenance, denounced the Guardia Civil to the two occupants of the vehicle, making six minutes for violations of the Law 2/2007, of 12 March, Marine Fisheries and Aquaculture Murcia.
The alleged offenders could face penalties ranging from 201 to 3,000 euros, to be regarded as grave breaches of the regional rules.
