The City of Cartagena, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) and the International Centre Foundation for the Conservation of Heritage (CICOP) today constituted the executive committee of the 'Cartagena landscape for Humanity', which aims to make the city a recognized by the UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage.
The mayor of the city, Pilar Barreiro, the rector of the Polytechnic José Antonio Franco, and manage CICOP, Miguel Ángel Fernández Matrán, today signed the creation of that committee and have released "the beginning of an important journey "in the words of the lord.
The aim is that the Unesco (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) World Heritage Cartagena declare under the category of associative cultural landscape, as explained Fernández Matrán.
Since 1992 Unesco recognizes the interactions between man and the environment as most unique cultural landscape.
CICOP director cited the Port of Cartagena as fundamental in the constitution of the cultural landscape of the city, but also to the numerous archaeological remains and "the overall use of historic container made by the Polytechnic University".
