A Final Grade of a student of Civil Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) reveals a "critical mass" of users and non-regular users claiming bike better infrastructure to use this means of transport when traveling to UPCT campuses.
According to the study, conducted by the student Jaime Ferrer García and led by Professor Pilar Jiménez Gómez, "both users and non-users agree that bicycle infrastructure needed to provide security at the ride, bike lanes, and the evening leaving adequate bicycle parking, "explains the teacher.
Respondents also demand the implementation of a bike rental service.
And those who already use a normally proposed University campaigns to increase the number of bikers in UPCT.
Of the 244 members of the university community, distributed almost equally between students, PDI and PAS, who voluntarily responded to the survey, 40% said access usually walk to the University.
38% arrive by car;
11%, by bike;
8% by bus, 2%, on a motorcycle.
Of those who have lived less than 10 minutes' walk from the University, the majority accessed on foot and 4% by bicycle.
Of those living between 10 and 30 minutes, 44% comes walking, 19%, bike, and 37%, in motor vehicle.
And those who live more than a half hour walk on a motorized reach 88% of the cases, only 7% and 5% bike walk.
These data show that even without adequate infrastructure people opt for a sustainable way of transportation, the use of which may increase the required actions, which benefit not only the campus but to the city to reduce traffic and thus CO2 emissions by highlight some of its advantages.
The TFG of this student also reveals that 82% of respondents walk moves between different UPCT campus, while 10% work cycle and 7% in motor vehicles.
11% of respondents travels daily from one campus to another;
38% do so several times a week, 45% at least once a month, and 6% never visit other campuses.
