The Director General of Environment, embodies Molina, said today that "garbancillo Tallante help promote environmental tourism in this region", during the presentation of the technical guidelines for projects in the habitat of this species in the municipality Cartagena.
The garbancillo Tallante ('Astragalus nitidiflorus') is a unique plant species in the region, listed as 'Endangered', which is located exclusively in the municipality of Cartagena.
This species was discovered in 1909 by botanist Francisco de Paula Jimenez.
Since June 2012 it has been developing a 'LIFE +' project for the conservation of this species in its habitat potential in the region of Murcia, with the participation of the Directorate General for the Environment, the City of Cartagena and the Technical University, and has a budget of 1,263,000 euros, financed 50 percent by the European Union.
Molina also said that the Directorate General for the Environment "is finalizing a recovery plan that will define the areas that should be retained for the maintenance of this species and those of potential reintroduction."
In this regard he noted that "the activities likely to adversely affect the habitat of Tallante garbancillo will require authorization."
Some of these areas are already protected by other figures such as the Site of Community Interest Cabezos Pericón and secondarily the protected Sierra de la Muela, Cabo Tiñoso and Mount Roland, SCI, SPA and Natural Area area.
Regarding the technical guidelines presented today, embodies Molina said "used to help the developer of any initiative to know how to design your project and refer your request."
Informative work
The publication of these guidelines is in addition to the informative work on this species is being developed in the framework of the LIFE project, to contribute to knowledge not only of the species endangered, but the region in general, with the realization of walking and cycling routes, among other initiatives.
The deputation of Tallante host next Saturday, June 14, the Biodiversity Fair IV, in which artisans and entrepreneurs give appointment to foster knowledge of the natural and heritage values ​​of the area west of Cartagena.
The Director General concluded that these initiatives "contribute to the revitalization of the area Tallante, enabling economic development taking into account the conservation of our natural heritage."
