In the Polytechnic University of Cartagena is planned this week the immediate future of global research in quantum physics trapped ions.
25 scientists, global leaders in this field, held from today until Friday at the annual meeting UPCT Quantum information and Quantum Dynamics in Ion Traps' to coordinate their research for next year.
Researchers pointers come from European and Asian countries, American and in this branch of quantum physics.
The only Spanish representative is professor Javier Cartagena Polytechnic Prior.
"It is a unique meeting place for leading experts in this field, why it is so important to make the UPCT" said Prior.
The trapped ions are electrically charged molecules that are isolated and manipulated by scientists to measure their quantum properties.
"Believe it or not, is a very connected to our daily field," said Professor UPCT.
Examples of practical applications, Prior mentioned atomic clocks that are sent into space to compute distances for GPS navigation systems and the development of faster microprocessors based on the laws of quantum physics.
Prior has been meeting this week as an example of the research for which the government should commit "to be pointers to international markets."
