The president of the Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, said today that the Ministry of Defense "has confirmed its commitment and wants to solve the problems as soon as funding to try to break the deadlock submarine project 'Tramontana' (S-74) and submersible new S-80 ".

The head of Murcia in Madrid today held a meeting with Defence Minister Peter Morenés, after which he announced that he will also meet with officials of the company Navantia for the work to begin "as soon as possible."

The large fairing Tramontana S-74 would extend the life of the submarine until 2019 and thus face the transition to the new S-80 class with at least two operating submersible: the S-74 and S-82.

Valcárcel called on the Ministry of Defence that begin "soon" the preparatory work of the great hull of the submarine S-74 and the draft of the new submarine S-80 is unlocked, which would ensure the workload in the shipyards Navantia in Cartagena and thus ensure the future a large number of jobs.

After the meeting, the president was "extremely hopeful" and explained that "we have a problem in Cartagena with regard to the large fairing Tramontana S-74 and had to unlock this complex situation, linked to economic difficulties, that make things even more difficult, but the fact is that the minister has already shown its commitment and today has ratified ".

Valcarcel said that one of the reasons for this is the "question of operability of Defense, as it is absolutely necessary for the defense of Spain while not consolidated the submarine S-80."

So, he added, "it is normal that a submarine as the Tramontana, the S-74 is in operation for reasons of availability in terms of the defense of Spain is concerned."

"This is an argument that has been and all have weight and that the minister has repeatedly exposed much more to strengthen their commitment to the implementation as soon as possible of that great hull," he added Valcárcel.

Ensure working hours

These actions would involve ensuring many hours of work over a hundred professionals, many of them belonging to subsidiary companies of the region of Cartagena.

Specifically, President Valcarcel said that "talking about a million hours of work, which is what is waiting Navantia Cartagena, indicating my council and I've moved to the minister on behalf of many other workers companies operating around Navantia ".

In this sense, Valcárcel expressed "satisfaction" because "the coincidence is absolute."

'Investing in defense is investing in technology'

Regarding the possible date for its launch, the president announced that he has requested an "immediate" meeting with representatives of the company Navantia, which, together with the Ministry, will have to solve the economic aspect, because the project involves an investment estimated 30 million euros.

Valcarcel said that "investing in defense is nothing to invest in technology, this is something that also has to be clear all Spanish, and we can not ignore."

Thus, stressed that "an investment in a fairing on the S-74, S-80, which is also a perfectly exportable submarine once it is running, is to invest in technology."
