A study by a professor at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) Emma García Meca on the influence of institutional directors on Boards of Directors in the economic performance of large companies has achieved one of the two second prize awarded in the Research Awards Foundation Financial Studies (FEF).
Research Mecca Emma Garcia, Department of Financial Economics and Accounting UPCT on Fernando Tejerina-Gaite, University of Valladolid, analyzes in the field of the boards of listed Spanish companies, how the presence institutional directors representing large shareholdings affect the indebtedness of the company and directors' salaries.
For this project, García Meca examined a total of 162 Spanish companies listed on the Stock Exchange between 2004 and 2010.
The results suggest that institutional directors have no incentive homogeneous when involved in the governance of companies in which they participate, and there are differences between the directors representing banks and building societies and those representing managers and investment funds.
Emma Garcia is the lead author of the research project funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness in the study that is integrated rewarded.
His work focuses primarily on issues of corporate governance and voluntary disclosure of information on listed companies, having previously received other awards such as Carlos Cubillo Research Award for work or a second prize of the Award Center for Financial Studies.
