The Diabetic Society of Cartagena and Shire, Sodicar, was one of three awarded with a prize of 5,000 euros by the Foundation of the Spanish Society of Diabetes, F-SED, for the good organization and implementation of partnerships summer camp for children with diabetes.
In the summer of 2013 Sodicar was appointed by the Diabetes Federation of Murcia, FREMUD as responsible for organizing the summer camp at the regional level for children with diabetes.
It was attended by 34 children between 7 and 17 years, both belonging to Sodicar as other associations of persons with diabetes from different parts of Spain: Cartagena, Murcia, Aguilas, Lorca, Albacete, Alicante and Segovia.
During the camp, participants enjoyed doing different activities such as windsurfing, kayaking, hiking, paddle tennis, indoor soccer, ..., while receiving diabetes education, lectures, specific support and correction techniques, with the aim of promoting independence.
Now the F-SED has recognized the work of Sodicar in organizing this activity giving the company a grant of 5,000 euros.
Sodicar thanked the F-SED this award for being a great help to finance new projects, which is not easy for non-profit associations like this.
