2013 has been a historic year for the Roman Theatre in Cartagena and its Museum as it has reached the highest number visitors since its opening five years ago.
As stated by the Councillor for Tourism, Palazón Carolina, last year visited the monument about 145 thousand people, 20 thousand more than in 2012, representing an increase of 16 percent.
Since opening to the public on July 11, 2008 it's been close to 764,000 people, the most visited museum in the Region of Murcia and one of the first nationally.
In 2013, 71 percent of visitors were individual in nature and focused especially between the months of March to September.
Of these 50,200 individual visits were 48.018 foreign nationals and tourists.
Visits in grup or, which accounted for 29 percent remaining, were distributed as follows: 31 percent were for groups of foreigners mostly from cruise ships docked in the city, 29 percent of school from the region, and to a lesser amount of Albacete, Alicante and Almería, and 26 percent travel on Aging.
The rest were for various associations and cultural groups.
As for the origin of visitors, 57 percent were domestic visitors, of which 14 percent were local or regional, and 44 percent from other provinces.
Among the highlights domestic visitors from Madrid, Valencia, Andalusia, Catalonia, Castilla y León and the Basque Country.
Foreign visitors in 2013 have meant 43 percent of the total.
Of these 53 percent were English, French and 13 percent 6 percent Russians.
In absolute terms the foreign visitors in 2013 were 59,323, about 14 thousand more than in 2012.
Carolina Palazón considers the Museum and Theatre of Cartagena has become today an important cultural and tourist reference, both in number of visitors and the satisfaction that reflects the evaluation surveys, as well as the surveys that have taken at national and European level.
In this sense he recalled that in 2010 received EL GRAND PRIX EUROPA NOSTRA in the category of conservation, in addition to others like à ‰ PPREMIO TO BUSINESS SUCCESS.
