The Polytechnic University of Cartagena in 2014 will be lower than the previous year's budget.
The revenue shortfall at 2.2 million euros has conditioned the preparation of a budget that is very restrictive with a drop of 20% in current expenditure, as collected accounts approved today by the Board of the UPCT.
"These figures force us to defensiveness, which will delay the development of certain appropriate and desirable for the competitiveness of a dynamic and growing university policies like this," laments Emilio Trigueros, Vice Chancellor for Economic Planning.
The budget decrease, which since 2012 is already 12%, is caused mainly by the reduction in funding of the Autonomous Community, which provides 8 million euros less.
A cumulative reduction in the last two years of 15%, only partially alleviated by improving revenue and fees from the companies they UPCT performs research services.
"At this juncture, it has prioritized those expenses that can offer high quality teaching to our students with an optimum performance of the functions of higher education which have been entrusted to us," says Trigueros.
The activities that will be most affected will be the support for R & D, technology research services, international relations and institutional.
"The reaction of the University can not be expected.
The first battery of austerity measures and savings implemented in 2012 and 2013, are no longer sufficient to offset the budget shortfall, largely influenced by the economic situation of the Regional Administration, "says the Vice Chancellor for Economic Planning.
The government team of teacher preparation institution raises a Financial Budget Plan that clearly identifies the economic needs and collect a series of measures of a structural nature that are able to convert to sustainable economic horizon until 2020.
Such measures to reduce spending and revenue enhancement should be prepared for the summer of 2014.
