Cartagena joins 60 municipalities and agencies to make the most accessible cities (04/12/2013)

More than 60 municipalities and agencies have joined the Network of Cities for Accessibility, whose constitution was held yesterday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health in Madrid, presided by Queen Sofia.

REDCA-4ALL aims to improve the social and urban livability through universal design of public spaces and services in cities, strengthen Accessibility Best Practices and serve as a forum for exchanging experiences.

Next to the Queen were in the constitution of the Network, the Minister of Health, Social Services and Equality, Ana Mato, President of the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI), Luis Cayo Pérez, President of the Committee on Accessibility of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, José Loaiza, and the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre.

The idea of ​​creating this network emerged in the city of Málaga, in 2011, the II Forum of Universal Design, which was evident the need to articulate a strategy to adapt cities by setting them as intelligent and friendly for all spaces.

Thus, began work on the formalization of this structure, which combines in his home to a significant number of municipalities and agencies, and a first contact between cities developed during the last International Forum of Universal Design and Mobility held the last June.

The purposes for which the REDCA-4ALL is created are:

Proclaim and vindicate the importance of accessibility in the city.

Highlight aspects of accessibility and universal design of the political projects of cities and organizations belonging to the network.

Promote, inspire, encourage and ensure compliance with the principles contained in the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the member cities, as well as advice and information on the development and implementation thereof.

Be a valid and significant partner in the processes of influence,

negotiation, decision and policy drafting universal accessibility.

Establish relationship and exchange of experiences and ideas with associations, federations, associations or local networks and, in particular, of cities, in areas similar, complementary or concurrent actions.

Cooperate in all geographical areas within the purposes of the network.

All this avocando to present and cross accessibility in all areas, always advancing and normalizing.

Promote adherence to the network of cities and organizations around the world.

Promote the deepening of the Affordable City concept and its practical applications in the policies of cities and organizations through exchanges, meetings, joint projects, conferences and all activities and initiatives to strengthen the ties between cities and member organizations of the network.

The use of information technology and communication will be the key element for the organization and functioning of the network itself the other hand, the web will be your City accessible digital format.

REDCA-4ALL is open to all entities, agencies and organizations who want to participate in this online network founded: expanding accessibility to all areas and standardization.
