A year after the Parliamentary Petition Ecologists in Action sent to Europe to warn of the possible impacts on the Natura 2000 project macropuerto the Cartagena Port Authority (CPA) in the Gorguel projects, the Secretariat of the Committee of Parliament It asked about the processing status of the project, in order to be aware of whether it is complying with European legislation on environmental matters.
Ecologists in Action remember that the Petitions Committee stressed that the competent authorities will have to ensure compliance with the requirements set out in Article 6 of the Habitats Directive, which among others, mark that in case adverse impact on areas of Natura 2000, the project can only be authorized in the absence of alternative solutions, if the public interest of the highest order and provided that compensatory measures are taken to protect the coherence of the Natura 2000 network, and thus would remain vigilant to this project.
In environmental group has informed the Secretariat of Parliament after analyzing in depth the contents of the Environmental Sustainability Report (ISA), the association presented a comprehensive report of allegations where expressly requested discard this project because, among other things, breach on how the recommendations made by the then Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, since both the ISA and in the Master Plan of the New Waterfront, is imposed Gorguel alternative location above all else, something which is contrary to the basis of the analysis of alternatives required by law.
Natalia Martin, head of the Marine Environment, notes that: "in response to Europe we have reiterated our absolute rejection of this megalomaniac project.
The environmental analysis of the ISA has been taken by the consultant and the APC as a formality to achieve their goals, "adding that" the quality of the ISA is quite deficient in the analysis of environmental and social reality of the area , thus showing little scientific rigor and technical ".
Ecologists in Action will monitor the processing of this impressive project, ensuring that it complies with national law and international law, and taking the necessary measures for the Gorguel still retains the high values for the use and enjoyment of the whole society and not end buried by a megalomaniac project, unnecessary and it has a clear alternative that once sold with the same arguments and has already produced significant impacts but is yet unfinished and underutilized, as is the Dock Ecombreras.
