The Minister of Education, Universities and Employment, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, and the Mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, today inaugurated the new Polymer Processing Laboratory of the National Center of Cartagena Vocational Training in the Regional Service of Training and Employment (SEF) has invested 800,000 euros to equip it with the latest technology to train unemployed and meet the demands of industry professionals.
During the past year, a total of 400 people were trained in these facilities covering five areas of professional chemical family: Analysis and Control, Chemical Process, Pharmaceutical chemicals, pulp, paper and cardboard, and Transformation of Polymers.
The head of the Ministry emphasized "the important work that is being developed at the training center both qualitatively and quantitatively."
He stressed that in a year has increased fivefold the number of companies and institutions that have signed cooperation agreements and "courses that take place are increasingly recognized in the labor market."
During this year, the center has signed agreements with 34 companies and institutions, compared with those who had six in 2012.
These collaborations allow complete with practical training of students and supports their introduction effectively in the labor market.
One of the training activities of the National Center of Cartagena occupational training is called 'Transformation Operations Thermoplastic Polymers', in which 13 unemployed have been formed by use of the new center's laboratory and soon, they will start their Practical Training period in companies.
The chemical sector has in the region with 190 companies employing 5,800 people with a turnover of about 2,000 million euros.
Since its inception in 1982, the National Center of Cartagena Vocational Training has conducted more than 1,000 courses, has trained 14,000 people and delivered 300,000 hours of lessons.
