Education reduced to 2 percent truancy in the county (08/10/2013)

The local technical committee met today to approve the Municipal Plan Dropout & Truancy for the next three years, in which the city of Cartagena is a pioneer, coding on 176 the number of cases that have been resolved in the last year

The City, through the Department of Education, Social Services, Public Safety and Legal Affairs, the Regional Government, through the Ministries of Education and Health, the Office and Primary Schools and Secondary Technical Committee composed Truancy, which was launched in May and has met today to approve the Municipal Plan Truancy and Dropout in force the next three years, establishing the lines of action to resolve conflicting cases.

To speak of the Plan has appeared the Councillor for Education, Joseph Marotta, who gave encouraging data on the reduction of truancy in the city, thanks to the work that for years has been doing since our City, a pioneer in the Region of Murcia, and that leads us to have a level of truancy 2.22 percent of the school age population, compared to 3.28 percent that occurred in 2007-2008.

According to the mayor of Education, last year 176 cases were resolved absenteeism, and 427 remain open, which is already working.

Our experience and advances in Cartagena we are serving to support the Ministry, that from this year to impose a mandatory schools RESP monitoring (Truancy Program).

Maroto also recalled the resources available to the Council to combat this problem, which affects kids between 6 and 16 years who, for various personal or family reasons, reaching 20 percent of truancy in a month.

In this sense, the councilor noted the importance of Occupational Classroom, aimed at pupils aged 15 at risk of dropping out, who last year successfully completed, since 10 of the 15 students who attended this year have applied to continue their studies training cycles.

Furthermore, from the Department of Education has published a school calendar and has been reported to the start of the course through radio spots.

In addition, the City will sign an agreement with the Ministry of Education to expedite the process.

So far cases of absenteeism are sent to the Ministry and this, in turn, sends them to the prosecutor.

Through this agreement will skip this step, since in the Technical Committee and Local Truancy is a representative of the prosecution, and therefore, not necessary.
