The Department of Education has introduced the Learning Guide for this endangered species, developed in collaboration with the UPCT and the Autonomous Community, which now reaches more schools for the kids to learn how to conserve
Today was presented the Learning Guide Tallante Garbancillo Take care of Elementary Education, an invitation to schools in the region so that they know this endangered species, which resides exclusively in Tallante and Ports of Santa Barbara.
This invitation includes classroom activities and field trip, and there are now eight centers, about 655 primary pupils, who have formalized their request.
This was brought forward the Councillor for Education, Joseph Marotta, during the presentation of the educational booklet, in which the City has worked with the UPCT and the region.
Alongside Maroto also appeared before the media Youth Councillor, Ruth Collins, director of the School of Agricultural Engineering (ETSIA) UPCT, Alejandro Pérez Pastor, and professor and head of ETSIA action and education outreach LIFE Project, María José Vicente Colomer.
This guide, presented one year after the granting of the LIFE + by the European Union, is the result of years of research by the team of teachers led by Juan Jose Martinez and focuses on the conservation of the species Astragalus nitidiflorus , better known as Tallante Garbancillo in potential habitat in the Region of Murcia.
It consists of a first part addressed to the faculty, which contains general information about the species, and a second with a range of educational activities for students of the three primary cycles, including chips that help students learn the species in question, where you live, what threats have and how you can act in favor of conservation and biodiversity in general. Younger children are also more receptive to all kinds of information, so it is important to carry out initiatives addressed to them, pointing to the Councillor for Education.
Thus, this project, valid until 2014, is conceived as a strategy for conservation garbancillo long term by promoting a range of environmental education activities for training, education and awareness of the population, and especially the youth.
To do the Polytechnic University of Cartagena has the support of the City of Cartagena, through educational programs and social action carried out the Department of Education and Youth.
The latter works through the program U-La and Volunteering service, coordinating with Education to expand educational opportunities for secondary students, Bachelor and Vocational Training.
For the development of the program has the support of the European LIFE program budget, which makes it possible to incorporate volunteers to develop classroom sessions and field, and transport subsidy for educational output.
