On the occasion of World Alzheimer's Day on 21 September, users Dayrooms centers of Los Dolores and El Algar, both managed by the City of Cartagena, conducted numerous joint activities in the days after this solemn occasion.
So, on Monday 23 and AFAL in collaboration with the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer Cartagena, was a meeting between professionals and relatives of the patients, through which addressed important issues such as effective communication with the Alzheimer's patient to achieve a tolerable and acceptable coexistence, the need to lower the level of anxiety, control of aggression, confusion and misunderstanding, or improving the quality of life.
The day ended with a series of tips and advice to soothe the symptoms of this disease, while each of these shared his own personal story.
Parallel to this talk, the 24th was organized Cognitive Gymkhana.
Different tests on attention and memory, language, and executive functions and perceptual stimulation contributed to favor.
The day center Algar became the last scene of the celebration of World Alzheimer's Day with a briefing led by the center's psychologist.
In addition to describing the disease and to outline some symptoms to detect also informed family members about possible changes in behavior, while it facilitated a relaxation techniques for the caregiver.
All participants very positively evaluated these actions, as well as receiving useful information about the disease, enjoyed a convivial space in which to tell their daily experiences.
