Cartagena already has 85 public squares, of which 30 are specifically for people with Alzheimer's and other dementias
The Minister of Health and Social Policy, Maria Angeles Palacios, accompanied by the Mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, today inaugurated the new Day Centre of Sorrows, which has 30 beds for adults, of which 15 are public, and that makes the total supply of places in the city to rise at this time to 85.
Palacios said that "Day Centres are one of the most appropriate resources to meet those who are not in a state of high dependency, without breaking the family ties."
He added, "allow family members to reconcile their work with the care of the dependent person."
The launch of this new Day Centre represents an investment of more than 1.3 million euros, of which the Ministry of Health and Social Policy, through the Instituto Murciano Social Action (IMAS), invested for construction and equipment 553 544 euros and 184 515 euros Hall.
Also, the Consistory provided the plot where is located the new building, valued at 650,630 euros, and funded the hiring IMAS 15 of the 30 seats of the Centre Day 2015 with 239,400 euros.
The building has been built in the north of Cartagena, in the district of Los Dolores, on a plot of 1169.67 meters square and has one floor with a lobby, reception, waiting room, multipurpose room, dining , kitchen and living rehabilitation, among other agencies.
The counselor explained that infrastructure is "necessary" given the demand Day Centre service in this town, so that "this action we hope to answer all those who applied for admission."
Great offer of places
The Minister of Health and Social Policy, Maria Angeles Palacios said that currently the town of Cartagena is endowed with a "great deal" of places to service day center and residential.
The number of places for seniors in the Day Centre service is at 85, of which 30 are specific to those suffering Alzheimer's and other dementias, while residential service, the number of seats is 246 concerted.
Palacios concluded that "dependency care is a priority for the regional government so in the Region of Murcia there are more than 2,200 residential places and over 900 in day centers for older people."
