For the second consecutive year, the Collective MoviliCT for your Health, composed of citizens, in collaboration with Free Way Association and the City of Cartagena, have for several months working for Sunday September 22, all Cartagena and Cartagena , off the streets, preferably walking, cycling or public transport and become the real protagonists, at least for that day.
The European Car Free Day which takes place this Sunday, will put an end to a number of diverse activities framed within the European Mobility Week.
This week, it was launched by the European Union in 2005, as a necessary strategy to raise public awareness / as on the negative impact that transport motor vehicles powered by fossil fuels have on air quality and health, and as such quality can be improved by use of sustainable transport, ie walking, cycling or public transport.
In a recent Eurobarometer survey on the attitudes of Europeans regarding air quality indicates that 96% of respondents believe that emissions from cars and trucks have an impact on the quality of the air we breathe.
Of these, 56% considered that air quality has deteriorated in the last ten years and this has had a negative impact on the health of citizens.
ACTIVITIES PLANNED
Cartagena is a city of its size and geography, lends itself to replace the motor vehicle by cycling, walking or using public transport. Nevertheless, there are still few people who use them.
With activities such as European car-free day is achieved two objectives on one side offers citizens the possibility to use the bike, especially as a means of sustainable transport and clean and not only as a means of entertainment.
On the other hand, gives the possibility to all Cartagena and Cartagena, to live the city, participating in a variety of leisure and recreational activities and sports ( more than 20 ) that from 11.30 to 13.30 h., will be developed in the historical to the delight of all those who forget the car and decide to participate.
Like the previous year, prior to the development of the activities, prepare a bicycle ride from Parque de Los Juncos, which will go a street circuit.
To facilitate participation from the neighborhoods, organized two courses: one from Canteras, with concentration in the CP Fernando Garrido, and another from El Bohio, at traffic lights, both at 9.30 am.
The organization is working hard to make this event reaches all parts of the municipality.
This is going to distribute 20,000 information leaflets for schools, sports centers.
On the other hand, it is expected that as in the previous year, the media tip over with this event and will devote the attention it deserves, as they did last time.
