The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, and Social Care Councillor, Antonio Calderon, have given the traditional welcome today at 41 Saharawi children will be spending the summer in our city Cartagena families.
In order not to tire the small, the mayor has skipped the speech and passed directly to hand to each of them a gift in memory of his visit to Cartagena and wish you a happy summer.
The kids, who arrived on Wednesday, v ienen from the Tindouf refugee camps and during their stay, have the opportunity to perfect the Spanish and discover the sea, nature and the products of these two important ecosystems, being the best ambassadors of its people and creating a sense of solidarity with their cause.
The objective of this program is to remove these children from the harsh conditions of exile in the desert where, in summer, when temperatures can reach over 50 °, while receive a comprehensive and balanced diet, they perform medical examinations, enjoy living activities and, most importantly, coexist within Cartagena host family as one.
This year come to the Murcia Region a total of 141 children, of which one third is left in the city of Cartagena, thanks to the solidarity of the families of the municipality.
In this project supports the Holiday Association of Peace, the Associations of Solidarity with the Saharawi people, the Directorate General of Social Policy and Health Service of Murcia Autonomous Community of Murcia, and towns like Cartagena.
