The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, and Social Care Councillor, Antonio Calderon, have kept this afternoon a meeting with the president of Sodicar, Diabetic Society and District of Cartagena, Maria Dolores Garcia. During the meeting also attended by Federico Sanchez , Honorary President and Chairman of FREMUD Sodicar, Murcia Regional Diabetes Federation.
On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the founding of this organization, María Dolores has moved to the mayor his appreciation for the support of the Consistory during these three decades of existence.
Also in this meeting Barreiro has asked to chair the July 15 conference, Prediction, Prevention and Treatment of Diabetes Mellitus, given by Bernat Soria, president of the Foundation of the Spanish Diabetes Society (EDS), Director Andalusian Research Program in Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine Andalusia and former Minister of Health.
The conference is part of the programming provided by Sodicar to mark the thirtieth anniversary and will be held at seven pm at the School of Business of the UPCT (Old CIM).
The entry for the same will be free until all places.
At present, there are over 30,000 Cartagena suffering from diabetes, and about 13,000 people are unaware they have the disease, according to Garcia said after the meeting with the mayor.
Sodicar not only works with the sick, but also important is the street activity with various campaigns organized for the detection and control of diabetes.
