Cartagena Local Police made a total of twelve complaints, ten of them by mobile phone use behind the wheel, during the campaign of control and surveillance of distractions while driving, which took place from 3 to 9 June in collaboration with General Directorate of Traffic.
For controls the agents spent 6,467 vehicles, of which 735 were unemployed, detecting that 169 drivers used hands-free devices.
This project starts from the premise that 39% of fatal accidents are caused by distracted driving, hence, during the campaign, officers have paid special attention to issues such as the use of mobile phones and GPS, reaction time or the safety distance, trying to raise awareness among drivers.
Recall that the Road Safety Act and the Rules of the road established fines of 200 euros and withdrawal of license 3 points for drivers who use mobile phone while circulating.
