The chess Jose Carlos Ibarra was proclaimed champion on Sunday after playing the XVII edition of La Palma Chess Open, organized by the Chess Club Trovero Marin, who had more than forty participants from across the region and neighboring provinces.
Among them, noted the presence of three international masters, Argentines Antonio Barn and Luis María Campos, and Slobodan Kovacevic and two great players (maximum category recognized by the International Chess Federation), such as Britain's James Plaskett , winner of the tournament in the last edition, and the said Jose Carlos Ibarra, the first player that reaches this category region and ultimately was the winner this year, totaling 6.5 points out of 7 possible.
The tournament was played in seven rounds, according to the Swiss system, whereby players will be paired with other participants who have the same score in that round.
The rate of play was 20 minutes ten seconds of delay for each move.
Among the participants was raffled chess digital clock and a ham.
The act of the awards was chaired by the president of the neighborhood council of La Palma, Pedro Obradors.
The La Palma Chess Open has the support of the Chess Federation of the Region of Murcia and the city of Cartagena.
