Cartagena Local Police is performing throughout the town, from 3rd to 9th June a campaign of control and surveillance of distractions while driving, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Traffic.
This project starts from the premise that 39% of fatal accidents are caused by distracted driving, hence, during the campaign, officers shall pay particular attention to issues such as the use of mobile phones and GPS, the reaction time or the safety distance, trying to raise awareness among drivers.
Dial a phone number, answer a phone call, light a cigarette, adjusting the radio or CD player while driving, is looking away from the road for a time period in which the vehicle is traveling without control and can arise which cause a serious accident.
The Road Safety Act and the Rules of the road is very aware of the importance of being aware while driving, so established fines of 200 euros and withdrawal of license 3 points for drivers who use mobile phone while circulating.
