The decrease in the net loss of water supply to the Cartagena has meant savings of around 50 million euros since the service is performed by concession, as stated in the annual report submitted by Aquagest to local political groups.
The losses are about half that in 1993 even though the size of the network is now two and half times greater.
Cartagena has today more than 850 miles-enough pipes to connect Cartagena and Santiago de Compostela, representing an average annual rate of 40 kilometers of new pipelines.
The report also shows that the sewer system has triple in size in 1993 and now exceeds 1,000 kilometers.
The modernization and maintenance programs have made the number of incidents in 2012 have been the same as in 1993 despite having tripled its size.
These data show an improvement in the efficiency above 60%.
The report describes that the mains water has improved its expansion and renovation and creating a network of pressure regulating valves, shut-off valves and air suction to remove the empty pipe, that can prevent breakage and especially minimize the extent of the damage.
Stresses that have increased tenfold the water intake points for the fire services.
Firefighters can now supplied almost 1,200 hydrants.
INTEGRAL MANAGEMENT SINCE 1993
Aquagest Murcia manages the integrated water cycle in the city of Cartagena since 1993, as 20 years ago.
Since then he has implemented a Remote Service which has now reached the 222 stations.
This system, along with the microsectorización allows the management of all existing infrastructure from a holistic center that receives data in real time and react to them automatically based on preset protocols.
The extension of sewer pipes, the rainwater drainage network and triple the number of scuppers have reduced flood areas traditionally in the historic city of Cartagena.
Similarly, it has increased the control of discharges to the sewerage system.
Investments are around 51 million euros, with an average of 3.6 million annually since 2000.
