Some 2,500 young people enjoy the Greco-Roman theater in Cartagena (17/04/2013)

Today has started the nineteenth edition of the European Youth Festival Greco-Roman Theatre in Cartagena, which this year celebrates its thirtieth edition at European level, and which has the support of the Culture Department of the City of Cartagena.

On the midnight gathered in the auditorium of the Park Towers the college and university students not only from Cartagena and Murcia, but neighboring regions such as Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha and Valencia.

Organized by the Institute of Segobriga Greco-Roman Theatre (Cuenca), is coordinated with the IES Espada Cartagena.

Its director, Jose Miguel Fernandez, explained that about 2,500 young people will go through the festival over today and tomorrow, a figure lower than that of the last edition when it reached 4,000 attendees.

This cultural event was created to raise awareness of classics.

And, in the words of Fernandez, classical studies are not a majority, but the balance of this annual festival is always very positive.

In the morning, the work represented was Sophocles' Antigone, by the group The Theatre Aedo Cadiz town of El Puerto de Santa María.

Set in the city of Thebes, and specifically in Creonto Palace, the story dramatizes the conflict aroused by the struggle between established power and society, represented in Antigone.

In the afternoon, will be the turn for comedy, as the same group Host construed by Plautus at 17.00 hours. Tomorrow representations continue, Electra by Sophocles at midnight, and The Women's Assembly of Aristophanes , at five in the afternoon.

Both will be performed by the group of IES Selene Carlos III de Madrid.
