Clara Sanchez and Alfredo Gómez Cerdá, Mandarache Awards winners and Hache 2013 (12/04/2013)

Youth Councillor, Ruth Collins, accompanied by students from the College of St. Vincent de Paul have released this afternoon on behalf of the winning authors and Hache Mandarache Awards 2013, at a ceremony held at the Palace Hall.

With a total of 819 votes, the Award for Young Readers Mandarache Cartagena is placed on its eighth edition, in the novel, What hides your name (Destiny, 2010-Booket, 2011) of the writer Clara Sanchez. This has been decided the 1,992 young readers aged between 15 and 30 who made ​​up the jury of the literary prize.

For its part, the V Youth Literature Prize Hache is for the shadow's face (SM, 2011) by Alfredo Gómez Cerdá, that the novel has been voted by 1,578 adolescents between 12 and 14 years of the jury, with 685 votes .

A total of 3,528 young readers exercising their right to vote, of the 3,558 young people who could participate in choosing the winners of this latest edition. Isabel Martin, Cartagena school student, stressed the closeness of language and style work of Clara Sanchez, while teammate Paul Belmonte, and in reference to the work of Gómez Cerdá, said he liked the unexpected outcome of the plot.

Since September 2012 these thousands of readers (high school students, college students, youth associations and registered for free) have read and discussed the novels provided for free by the City of Cartagena and were able to meet the three finalists for each award authors , talk to them, ask questions and share your impressions before the time came to vote.

The two winning authors will be in Cartagena on May 7 to collect two separate awards from the Mayor of Cartagena in a ceremony, conceived by the stage director Nieves Pérez Abad, in the Auditorium El Batel. Both awards have a prize of 3,000 euros respectively, and a reproduction of a Haro ngel sculpture.

Mandarache Project is a training strategy between young readers created by the Youth Council of the City of Cartagena and public libraries in 200 4 and developed from the work of a promoter that integrates the efforts of teachers, libraries, publishers, associations of parents of students, libraries, entertainers, youth and young participants, and that is producing excellent results in their quest to create new young readers.
