In collaboration with the General Directorate of Traffic, l to Cartagena Local Police has launched this week, from Monday 8th to Sunday April 14, a campaign of surveillance and control of speed on urban roads and conventional whole municipality.
This type of initiative responds to the realization that the most significant factor in accidents in urban areas is the wrong speed at which vehicles are driven by these pathways, thereby endangering the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.
In urban areas, especially in the case of collision, speed is crucial, as from 80 km / h is almost impossible for a pedestrian in a hit not die, whereas at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour, the risk Pedestrian death is reduced to 10 percent.
Using these controls, the agents try to raise awareness among drivers that inappropriate speed leads to increased stopping distances and therefore decreases the reaction time, being the cause of many accidents.
In addition to the breach of the Road Safety Act and the Rules of the road is classified as serious or very serious offense and is punishable by fines of 90 to 600 euros.

In this line, the local police has conducted other traffic campaigns, as Special Campaign on Seat Belt and Child Restraint Systems, with which they occurred, from 11 February to 17 March, a total of 2700 preventive controls.
