Anton Chekhov's genius is what has propelled Daniel Veronese to reread and mount what could be called Chekhovian trilogy.
Indeed, the first was Three Sisters, Uncle Vanya then and now, The Seagull.
Central figure of Argentine theatrical universe, Veronese since its inception, decade and a half as a puppeteer at the head of the Company Peripheral Objects, so far has been someone concerned about the good treatment of the word and the actors that have been at your service either to set up their own texts or many of the most important universal drama, although in the case of the latter have always been subjected to a process of stripping, house brand.
Ibsen, Mamet, Tennessee Williams and many have passed through his hands.
And why not? Chekhov.
The children are asleep, free rewriting Seagull, is an example of the ability to move fully Veronese on all aspects of work that need to be changed in a current implementation essentially leaving the Russian author: his gaze on the fragility of the human condition, the harsh disagreements between desire and life shaking his creatures, his humor, his melancholy, all that in a classical version also moved us.
The difference is that appears next to Chekhov also the voice of the author-director, transferring an imprint text itself is included in this proximity which allows viewing from today's perspective.
In this staging, the seagull is mentioned several times, that crosses the sky released and kills someone for no reason, is a clear metaphor for the vulnerability of the human condition.
