On Thursday, March 14, at 10 am, is inaugurated in Room B of the Municipal Auditorium and Congress Palace of The Tender, the First Congress of Nautical Archaeology and Underwater Spanish whose theme will focus on the actions taken around the underwater cultural heritage Spanish waters both in Spanish and in third countries.
The presentation will be the delegate of the Government of the Region of Murcia, Joaquin Bascuñana; ARQVA director, Xavier Nieto, the
Director of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets of the Region of Murcia, Francisco Jimenez, and the Councillor for Culture of the City of Cartagena, Rosario Montero, alongside curators of the Murcia region and representatives of the Army and Security Forces.
The conference, which will be attended by many experts, will focus on two areas: historical and technical knowledge, and management, protection and conservation of heritage.
This first edition has set as its goal the dissemination of the evolution of this type of archeology, while intended to encourage reflection and help standardize this activity.
It was in the eighties, when it began the new phase of the underwater archeology of our country, characterized by a new legislative framework, the creation of various centers, the widespread preventive actions and emergency archaeological and especially the progressive establishment of a new management model.
On the first day, lectures and symposia will focus on the Paleoenvironment and navigation Phoenician (Room 1 ARQVA) and Navigation and medieval and modern trade in Spain (Room 2 ARQVA).
After the lunch break, and in the afternoon from 16.00 hours, will address the Navigation and Trade in Classical Antiquity and the navigation and commerce in medieval and modern America, in Conference Room 1 and Room 2, respectively .
The Underwater Cultural Heritage Management with port infrastructure, Naval Architecture Iconography and monopolized the second day of the Congress, which will also be present, Project Our Lady of Mercy.
On Saturday March 16 the theme will focus on the restoration and Sciences Auxiliary and again continue with the Underwater Cultural Heritage Management.
After various discussions, proceed to the end of the Congress on 13.10 hours.
The congressmen will visit scheduled for organizing the event in collaboration with Cartagena Port of Cultures.
