Andres Lledó face the challenge of completing the Grand Slam 4Deserts 2014 (21/02/2013)

The Cartagena ultrafondista Lledó Andrés has launched to achieve the challenge of his life, complete in a year the Grand Slam 4Deserts 2014, four runs of 250 miles that cover the planet's toughest desert, Atacama, Gobi, Sahara and the great desert Antarctica, which would be part of a club to which they belong, to date, only 84 runners.

And in achieving this goal, conceived as a sports but also social and educational, have the support of the City of Cartagena, through the Department of Sports, and collaborate with the Food Bank, collecting food voluntarily each of the sporting events are organized for the preparation and Lledó entertainment.

Since Andrew, an athlete on earth, presented his project, we knew we had to support him, pointed the Councillor for Sports, Diego Ortega, during the presentation of the challenge, which took place this morning at the Palace Hall.

Thus, the athlete will have medical services and municipal facilities for their training and also participate in the program Lledó ADE (Approach to Sport à ‰ lite), which directs the Department to bring their spirit of survival and sacrifice and the benefits of sport to young people, through talks in schools, work, sports and universities.

The challenge of Andrew Lledó as he explained his brother and manager, Antonio, is a project covering the year 2013 and the next, with two aspects, social and sports.

In sports, in turn, will have two parts, the first concerning the training will take place during 2013, with the organization of events and participation in races around the world, such as the Route of the strengths that held in April.

The second part of the sport, and in 2014, will be completed in a year's tour of the four deserts, which total 1,000 kilometers.

Four races of 250 miles each performed in six stages: the Atacama Crossing in Chile, the Gobi March in China, the Sahara Race in Egypt and, finally, The Last Desert in Antarctica.

It is a demanding test, which has both physical and mental strength and which do not move prizes or money, but, I guess, my own desire to excel, said Andres Lledó, that in this kind of daily marathon , will have to bring the food and everything you need in a backpack of 25 liters, with only 9 liters of water and 2,000 calories of food per day.

A GPS will allow real-time monitoring Lledó steps in their trials and, in addition, the organization also plans to keep the information up to date through social networks, in order to give these races some media attention.

Vocation "N for risk

Lledó Andrew was born in 1979 in Los Urrutias (Cartagena) and, soon, and knew that his life would be full of emotions and risk ending military training to join the group of Spanish Army paratroopers.

In early 2000 he was sent in peacekeeping operations in the Balkans with NATO for two consecutive years, where he assisted in security and reconstruction in the area.

After leaving the Army he specialized in marine rescue practices and now is rescue swimmer Sea Rescue service, work which he combines with his love of the sport, increasing their record from the mountainbike in the Sahara and Turkey to specialize in distance running: 2 Marathon des Sables, 1 Atacama Crossing, 2 and 1 Ultra trail Aneto Isostar Desert Marathon.
