The Association of Southeast Naturalists begin next week early work for the transformation of the old treatment plant lagoons of La Loma-Los Urrutias (El Algar, Mar Menor), in a wet area for the conservation and recovery of aquatic fauna wild, once the City of Cartagena has done part of the work of cleaning prior to delivery to ANSE facilities.
The action is covered by the signing of a collaboration agreement between Anse and the city of Cartagena in 2012, and the transfer of most of the former sewage facilities to the association for a period of 15 years.
Part of the treatment plant will comply functions storm tank (Aquagest managed by the company for the City), compatible with the naturalization of the treatment facilities by lagoons, abandoned a few years after the move from the treatment of wastewater to the South Treatment Plant del Mar Menor.
The project has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, under the project "New Wetlands for the Marbled Teal in Southeast Iberian", which also includes performances in the wetland of Los Carrizales (Elche), which has already been extended a pond owned by ANSE, Friends of Wetlands South of Alicante and area farmers.
The initiative seeks to increase the area of ​​wetlands suitable for marbled teal in southeastern Iberian addition to other threatened species associated with wetlands.
