During the course of the last special campaign monitoring and control of drinking and driving, held between 10 and 23 December, the local police conducted a total of 1,603 breath tests.
This campaign, conducted nationwide in collaboration with the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT), aims to raise awareness, ahead of the holidays, about the importance of exercise caution behind the wheel.
Of the 1603 examinations carried out, four drivers tested positive. Two of them incurred an administrative offense which carries a penalty of 500 euros and lost 6 points, while the other two have been charged with a crime against the security Vial.
This type of crime is recorded in the Penal Code and can be punished with imprisonment ranging from 6 months to 2 years and a fine of 6 to 12 months, or to work for the benefit of the community of 31 to 90 days, and in any case, with the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and motorcycles for longer than 1 year and up to 6 years.
