The City Council joins campaign Respect DGT Traffic Light (23/10/2012)

The City of Cartagena is rejoining a campaign organized by the Traffic Department for 2012, specifically the Special Campaign Respect Traffic Control, which is taking place from 22 to 28 October.

For this reason, the local police has increased, with controls at intersections with higher traffic surveillance signalized pedestrian crossings, to try to prevent the breach of the obligation to stop at a red light, by drivers , and in the event of a violation, punish.

As DGT reminds semaphores are vital elements in the regulation of urban traffic, hence the importance of this type of action, whose primary objective is to improve road safety behaviors and punishing anti-social behavior of users public roads.

In urban areas, after the speed, the most common violation is not respecting the priority and, within this type, skip the red light, reaching 17 percent.

In Cartagena counted 132 signalized intersections, including 20 in La Manga and 36 in the councils. In 2011 there were 728 accidents in the municipality for not respecting traffic priority, representing 30 percent of all accidents.
