More than 500 residents of El Algar honored on Saturday, along with the City of Cartagena, the religious Jose Maria Serrano Meseguer, parish priest for over 40 years, with the opening of a new public square that bears his name.

The nomination of this square was unanimously approved by the full City Council at the request of various associations and local institutions, and in recognition of his work during more than forty years in charge of the parish of Our Lady of Los Llanos.
Born in Molina de Segura in 1939, within a poor family, he was ordained in 1962.
In 1967 he was assigned to the parish of El Algar, where he has since formed Christian ethics and several generations and has been concerned with social work meet the needs of food, clothing and shelter for their neighbors in need.

José María Serrano Meseguer also holds the title of Algareño the Year, awarded by the Neighborhood Association.
