On Saturday, September 28, the City of Cartagena and the residents of El Algar pay homage to José María Serrano Meseguer religious, parish priest for over 40 years.
The event will take place at 19.30 hours, with the opening of a new public square bearing the name of the priest.
It will be chaired by the Deputy Mayor and Councillor of the area of decentralization, Ã ngel Nicolas Bernal, along the honoree.
The square is located near the famous restaurant of the steaks, the end of the avenue Philippines and its construction has been carried out by the company behind the housing development in which it is located.
The nomination of this square was unanimously approved by the full City Council at the request of various associations and local institutions, and in recognition of his work during more than forty years in charge of the parish of Our Lady of Los Llanos.
Born in Molina de Segura in 1939, within a poor family, he was ordained in 1962. In 1967 he was assigned to the parish of El Algar, where he has since formed Christian ethics and several generations and has endeavored to cover social work with the needs of food, clothing and shelter for their neighbors in need.
In fact, many village families have decent housing through its intervention, through the Cooperative Housing Our Lady of Los Llanos.
Neighbors also attributed the restoration and improvement of parish cemeteries, with superb management, which are among the best in the region and that of the parish church, the exterior facade, the roof, the altarpiece, and construction the parish center next to the church, supported by popular contribution.
With the city of Cartagena has worked in the remodeling of the Plaza Virgen del Carmen de Los Urrutias, creating the premises of the pilgrimage, and a natural park for the enjoyment of all residents.
José María Serrano Meseguer also holds the title of Algareño the Year, awarded by the Neighborhood Association.
