IU-Green calls for solutions to the Mar Menor and especially to the beach of Los Urrutias (16/08/2012)

Councilwoman Maria Rosa Mateo has filed a motion to urge the Coastal eliminate the artificial breakwaters accumulate dirt and Segura basin seeking zero discharge in watercourses flowing into the Mar Menor to eliminate plague of jellyfish

United Left-Green team has asked the Popular Party government to take measures to solve, once and for all, the problem of pollution, dirt and jellyfish that has been taking place for years in the Mar Menor and impact, especially in The Urrutias beach.

The coast marmenorense, and especially the locality cited, summer after summer is being focus of the media due to the unfortunate situation in which there are some areas of its beach.

This situation, while not occur in all the bathing places-some in good condition for it, causing damage to the tourism image of not only the Urrutias, but the entire town of Cartagena, but to date has done nothing to solve this problem.

Even denying the obvious reality that the neighbors complain, in recent days the general coordinator and Coastal Infrastructure, Gabriel Ruiz, claimed that the situation of Urrutias is "flawless", which is another example of the neglect and lack of team's attention Popular Party government towards such an important element of our economy such as tourism of sun and beach, this summer being the subject of significant criticism from vacationers and tourists, with the risk of declining visitors in future years.

The solution to the situation of Urrutias, and by extension around the Mar Menor, is because the city of Cartagena take adequate measures in their area of expertise and, above all, because they urge other governments to carry out that its own.

So, you must apply to the Coastal as asking residents of the town, the elimination of some artificial breakwaters, to retain flows, accumulate dirt, especially in the area of Club Nautico.

Regarding the plague of jellyfish, this is exacerbated, like dirt, organic discharges wadi leading to the sea, also increased by some rain also in flowing seawater.

In this case the solution must be taken by the Segura basin as ultimately responsible for the courses of the wadis.

Therefore, through a motion by Councilwoman Maria Rosa Mateo, United Left-Green team has asked the PP government to urge the Coastal Authority to take appropriate measures to remove the said jetties and the Confederation Segura Basin to take measures to achieve zero discharge of organic waste into the sea through the wadis, which could be achieved, as acknowledged by the coordinator and Coastal Infrastructure, with a drainage system to collect water from such watercourses.

This would ensure the "health" of the Mar Menor and eliminate the bad image that is occurring and the resulting negative impact on the tourism sector.
