The Labour Force Survey for the second quarter of 2012 yields positive data on the evolution of unemployment in Cartagena, down from 4% to reach the number of unemployed at 22,085 people.
This figure assumes that 893 people found work during the months of April, May and June, a figure that discourages the growth of unemployment experienced earlier this year.
Councilman employment, Diego Ortega, has valued cautious optimism this fall and, especially, has emphasized the 12% decline in the number of unemployed young people under 25 years, the best figure since October 2011.
Precisely at a time where unemployment has hit with young people found employment in Cartagena 668 people under 25, putting the number of unemployed in this age in 4940.
Data provided by the National Statistics Institute show that in the municipality of Cartagena unemployment fell in almost all sectors and especially in construction, with 205 fewer unemployed, and 313 in the service sector.
Diego Ortega highlighted as a positive during the month of June formalized 10,311 contracts, 2,480 more than during the May figures express the weight of the summer campaign in a city turned to tourism as Cartagena.
