IU-Greens presented at the Regional Assembly a motion that the Council urges Government to dismiss the Chiquita Cross place in Cartagena, as a deposit to hold toxic waste from the old factory Potasas and Derivatives.
The initiative seeks to disavow the regional government that Chiquita Cross, two kilometers from the mining town, staying 1.2 million cubic meters of contaminated and hazardous waste such as heavy metals and phosphogypsum, the latter of high radiological impact.
Also, remember that years ago the City of La Union objected to the discharge and agreed to seek an alternative location with the session of Cartagena and the Environmental Body.
The left-wing federation also notes that the project is "incompatible with the health of the population and the enhancement of natural and cultural heritage of the Sierra Minera from the regeneration of Portman Bay."
Also, requests to help find a suitable location given the "dangerous states" of waste.
