Cartagena will be decked out this whole weekend to celebrate the Feast of the Crosses of May. Sevillanas, Rocío choirs, music and colorful is what can be seen from Friday until Sunday in the main streets downtown and in neighborhoods and county.
This time more crosses will be assembled in May in the city than ever. About 40 groups, according to data of Celebration, are participating this year in this event.
The mayor Florentina Garcia has been very satisfied with the response of Cartagena on this holiday. This year we broke all records.
There are a lot of bars have turned with crosses.
More than twenty, he added.
At Easter brotherhoods, associations of neighbors, or the traditional cross of Cartagena City Folk Group has added bars like the other house, the bar Thyme, Mogambo, the Loom and Boss, among others.
The uniqueness of this festival, held on Friday 4th to Sunday May 6, is the variety of crosses and cultural events organized groups.
Whether morning, afternoon or evening you can sample at different points in the city dishes or listening to a choir rociero or even dancing Sevillanas.
The schedule of the Cruces de Mayo is the same as that of any festival.
The closing time is at 3 am, although, according to Garcia, there is room for half an hour to collect them.
Although this festival begins on Friday, not all crossings are operational that day. There are some who do that are ready on Friday, but the bulk of the celebration is on Saturday, when more lively will be the center because all groups with their crosses and their activities, has said the councilman.

THE ORIGIN OF THE PARTY
The Feast of the Crosses of May is celebrated in many Spanish cities and regions around May 3.
Its origin is religious because it commemorates the day that according to tradition was found Christ's cross by St. Helena, mother of Roman Emperor Constantine the Great.
But along with this religious background, it remains popular with dancing and other cultural activities around the different streets and places where they settle crosses decorated with flowers and other reasons.
In Cartagena participate very actively in this celebration of Easter brotherhoods, with other entities such as troops and legions of Cathagineses and Romans, neighborhood associations, cultural and women, and more recently catering establishments.
