The Adjustment Plan of the City moves forward in full (28/03/2012)

This afternoon a special meeting approved an urgent document prepared by the Municipal Government Team, with the votes for the PP and against the opposition PSOE, IU and the Joint-Citizens Movement

The plenum of the Municipal Corporation has given the green light today in an urgent special meeting, the Adjustment Plan prepared by the City of Cartagena for the next ten years, which allows access to the bottom of the National Government, which may deal with debt providers is estimated at 37 million euros.

The plan has gone ahead with the votes for the PP and against PSOE, IU and the Joint-Citizens Movement, voting has been a true reflection of the one that occurred last week in Committee on Finance.

Councillor for Finance, Fatima Suanzes, has been commissioned to explain in detail the measures of this Adjustment Plan which, he asserted, is a continuation of the austerity that the City has been practiced since 2008 and has allowed a saving of 32 million euros from that date.

To Suanzes, is a coherent plan, realistic and responsible, that allows a choice to fund the payment to suppliers of central government and that government shows that we can control our accounts, setting revenue and expenditure forecasts for the next ten years.

As data, the Councillor of Finance emphasized that in regard to debt providers, the City of Cartagena, with 172 euros per capita is below the national average, rising to 212 euros per capita.

The opposition groups, however, believe that the Plan does not address the concern that have qualified economic situation in the city, while acknowledging something positive in it, transparency, which identifies the City's indebtedness with the companies.

Both the Socialist Group spokesperson, Charity Rives, such as UI, Cayetano Jaime Molto, agreed to base their vote against the plan on the negative impact this will have on the citizen, by increasing the tax burden through higher taxes , taxes and public prices. Meanwhile, the spokesman of the Joint-Citizens Movement, Jose Lopez, argued that the plan will bring more deficits and more unemployment.
