Landscaping services of the City of Cartagena proceeded, early in February, the clearing of a false or pepper of Jamaica pepper (Schinus molle) located in the old municipal nursery.
According to the Consistory, this tree was in poor condition and interfered with the redevelopment of the area doctor.
This pepper was billed by the City Council as monumental tree within the management plan of Cartagena city, as its trunk had a circumference of over 4.5 meters.
An agricultural engineer RM EQUO visited the remains of logging and found that although, like most of the pepper on your age and size, the tree showed signs of deterioration by fungi, with treatment and maintenance could have survived at least fifty years.
You might also be transplanted safely to another location which would not hinder the work.
It should be noted that the cutting of this issue joins other indiscriminate, as recently done in Avenida America or its predecessors in the Alameda de San Antón and the Plaza del Rey.
RM EQUO regrets these actions that deprive the city and its inhabitants from a common good that produces so many benefits, both environmentally, improving air quality, and from the point of view of aesthetic and wellness, especially in an area with an extreme climate.
City Council requested EQUO greater respect in compliance with its rules and the promotion of green spaces and more sensitivity in urban planning and conservation of our natural heritage, make Cartagena a city more friendly and sustainable.
Equo is a social and political movement whose basic pillars of ecology, social equity, the defense of Human Rights and Democracy and that currently is in the process of constituting the group of the town and encourages all citizens you are concerned about these issues to work actively for a more sustainable Cartagena, transparent and supportive.
