As Defenders College of Public Universities and sadness we are concerned about budget cuts that affect a greater or lesser degree to the universities of our country.
We believe that higher education and university education is a value that must be defended in our society, because it allows the development of knowledge should serve all our citizens.
The university has several essential functions.
The scientific and technological development enables it to constitute a company to significantly increase the social welfare of citizens.
University education prepares professionals trained to respond to the many social functions necessary to conduct our lives.
The capacity of thought and reflection developed in our universities becomes richer and power a democratic society of free citizens organization, which also can be supportive of the fate of their fellow citizens.
We can live in dignity and develop our capabilities without teachers, without doctors and nurses, not entrepreneurs, not lawyers, not engineers and architects, not researchers, not historians, without physical and chemical, not linguists and philosophers, not a huge amount of professionals of all kinds weave the basic structure of our social life.
They are trained in our universities.
Therefore we ask and urge the authorities, State authorities and the different autonomous regions of the country, not applying economic criteria and restrictive in their budgets in the basic sectors of our society.
The university is one of them.
If you continue with this policy of cuts at all levels, will benefit those who use their economic power and financial strategies to increase their power and profits.
But it will be benefited the whole population and the future scientific, economic and human development.
We, Defenders university, we raise our voice against this situation and ask for assignments worthy to perform the activities of the universities.
For the good of the whole population.
